چکیده

Systems based on distributed agent architectures require an agent communications language having a clearly defined semantics. This paper demonstrates that a semantics for an agent communications language can be founded on the premise that agents are building, maintaining, and disbanding teams through their performance of communicative acts. This view requires that definitions of basic communicative acts, such as requesting, be recast in terms of the formation of a joint intention a mental state that has been suggested underlies team behavior. To illustrate these points, a semantics is developed for a number of communication actions that can form and dissolve teams. It is then demonstrated how much of the structure of popular finite-state dialogue models, such as Winograd and Flores’ basic conversation for action, follows as a consequence of the logical relationships that are created by the redefined communicative actions. language, the language of “speech acts” (Austin 1962; Searle 1969)) or more precisely, “illocutionary acts.” Such actions include requesting, promising, offering, acknowledging, proposing, accepting, etc.

Toward a Semantics for an Agent Communications Language Based on Speech-Acts

Implementations of systems based on distributed agent architectures require an agent communications language that has a clearly de ned semantics. Without one, neither agents nor developers can be sure what another agent's commitment to perform a task means (to name just one speech act). This paper demonstrates that a semantics for an agent communications language can be founded on the premise t...

Agent Communication Language: Toward a Semantics Based on Success, Satisfaction, and Recursion

Searle and Vanderveken's model of speech acts is undoubtedly an adequate model for the design of communicating agents because it o ers a rich theory which can give important properties of protocols that we can formalize properly. We examine this theory by focusing on the two fundamentals notions, success and satisfaction, which represent a systematic, uni ed account of both the truth and the su...

A Commitment-Based Approach to Agent Speech Acts and Conversations

This paper presents the main elements of Albatross, an agent communication language whose definition is currently under development. The semantics of Albatross, based on the social notion of commitment, allows one to define speech act types in a neat and concise way. I describe the logical relationship between messages and speech acts; give sample definitions of declarative, assertive, commissi...

Semantics for an Agent Communication Language

We address the issue of semantics for an agent communication language. In particular, the semantics of Knowledge Query Manipulation Language (KQML) is investigated. KQML is a language and protocol to support communication between software agents. We present a semantic description for KQML that associates states of the agent with the use of the language’s primitives (performatives). We have used...

An Analysis of speeches of Hussein ibn Ali (AS) in the first step toward the incident of Karbala (Departing Medina to Mecca) based on John Searle’s Speech Acts

Linguistic theories can open new doors to historical analysis. This paper seeks to analyze the speeches of Hussein ibn Ali in the first step toward the incident of Karbala which was his departure from Medina to Mecca. The Speech Acts theory which roots in Discourse Analysis focuses on the role of language. It sees speech as an act that brings about actions in this world. Searle introduces only...
